Every year, the Philadelphia Youth Dance Festival at Drexel University and Lehigh Valley Dance Festival at Muhlenberg College brings together some of the region’s most talented young dancers for a weekend dedicated to performance, education, and artistic growth. Hosted on Drexel’s beautiful campus in the heart of Philadelphia, the festival gives youth dance companies the opportunity to train with respected industry professionals, collaborate with fellow dancers from across the region, and perform on a collegiate stage.

For the Impact Dance Complex Senior Company, being invited to perform at the festival has become one of the highlights of our performance season. Even more meaningful, our dancers were once again selected to close the festival, an incredible honor that reflects not only the quality of our choreography and performance, but the professionalism and reputation our dancers have built over the years.

Bringing “Witch Hunt” to Life

This year’s performance piece, “Witch Hunt,” challenged our Senior Company in every aspect of their dance training. Rather than focusing solely on technical execution, the contemporary work required each dancer to fully immerse themselves in a story, bringing emotion, character, and intention to every movement. The choreography blended powerful contemporary & hard-hitting hip-hop movement with theatrical storytelling, demanding precision from the ensemble while allowing each dancer to contribute to the arc of the performance. Every rehearsal focused on more than just perfecting choreography…it was about understanding the “why” behind each movement and learning how to communicate that story to an audience.

Preparing for the Festival Season

Opportunities like these youth festivals don’t happen overnight. For months leading up to the performance, our dancers dedicated themselves to weekly rehearsals centered around synchronization, storytelling, musicality, and performance quality. Alongside rehearsals, they continued their regular training in contemporary, jazz, hip-hop, conditioning, and performance technique to build the strength and versatility needed to perform at this level. Just as importantly, rehearsals became an opportunity to strengthen the trust within the company. Every correction, every challenge, and every breakthrough brought the dancers closer together as a team. By the time they stepped onto the stage at Drexel & Muhlenberg, they were ready to go.

More Than a Performance Weekend

One of the things that makes the Philadelphia & Lehigh Valley Youth Dance Festivals so special is that it’s much more than a performance. Throughout the weekend, our dancers participated in professional master classes taught by respected instructors from the dance industry, expanding their training beyond the walls of our studio. They spent time learning from new educators, connecting with dancers from other companies, and experiencing what it feels like to perform in a professional dance environment. These experiences help prepare our students for future opportunities in dance, whether they continue into college dance programs, professional careers, or simply carry the confidence and discipline they’ve gained into other areas of life.

At Impact Dance Complex, we often say we’re building more than dancers. Every opportunity we provide is designed to develop confident, respectful, hardworking young people who understand the importance of supporting one another and representing themselves with integrity. Throughout the festival weekend, our Senior Company exemplified the values that define our studio:

  • Professionalism – carrying themselves with confidence and maturity both backstage and onstage.
  • Respect – for fellow dancers, instructors, festival organizers, and every opportunity they were given.
  • Artistry – bringing authentic emotion and purpose to every movement performed.

These qualities are just as important to us as technical excellence, and seeing them on display throughout the weekend made us incredibly proud. As another festival season comes to a close, we’re reminded why opportunities like these are so meaningful. They inspire our dancers to grow, challenge them to think beyond choreography, and reinforce that dance is as much about performance as it is about technique. We are incredibly proud of our 2026 Senior Company for representing Impact Dance Complex, Doylestown, and the greater Bucks County dance community with passion, humility, and professionalism.
