Mr. Stephen

Stephen Casey – Broadway Tap & Musical Theatre

Stephen Casey is a Philadelphia native, NYC transplant, and now a freelance choreographer, director, and dance educator residing in Bucks County. Select performance credits include the Broadway National, European, and bus & truck touring companies of : 42nd St., U.S. tours of 7 Brides for 7 Brothers, and A Chorus Line, the European touring companies of The Rocky Horror Show and Golden Musicals of Broadway, and the Schiller Theatre production of 42nd St. in Berlin, Germany.

Fortunate to perform for many of the top regional theaters across the U.S. including Papermill Playhouse, North Carolina Theatre, St. Lois M.U.N.Y., Artpark, Dallas Musicals, Kansas City Starlight, Jupiter Theatre, Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera and the Cleveland Opera.  On the high seas, he danced contracts for Holland America, Norwegian, and Commodore Cruise Lines. When he transitioned to directing and choreographing for musical theatre, he spent 16 seasons as the Resident Choreographer and Artistic Director of the Bucks County Playhouse, and since his work has been presented at numerous professional regional theaters across the U.S. including: Bristol Riverside Theatre, The Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival, Montgomery Theatre, People’s Light, Act 2 Playhouse, Bucks County Center for the Performing Arts, The Wick Theatre in Boca Raton, the Sooner Theatre of Oklahoma, and Arizona Broadway Theatre.

Stephen is a proud recipient of three Philadelphia Barrymore Award nominations: 1) His choreography of Ragtime at Bristol Riverside Theatre, 2) His choreography of Little Shop of Horrors at Bristol Riverside Theatre, and 3) His direction of The Musical of Musicals at Montgomery Theatre.  Mr. Stephen graduated from DeSales University, where he is now an adjunct instructor and has choreographed and/or directed numerous mainstage productions since 2007.

His local teaching affiliations have included: The Mill Ballet School, Dance Arts Collaborative, Acting Naturally, Parkland High School, the Pennsylvania Youth Theatre, and (since 2012) Theatre Arts Center in New Britain. While at TAC, he has taught various levels of musical theatre, theatre dance and repertory, Broadway tap, and technique classes geared to the musical theatre performer. Stephen has also directed and choreographed many of TAC’s summer, holiday, and teen productions enjoyed by the public, running from 2012-2023.
He has also proudly been involved with choreographing for Jenks High School (Tulsa, Oklahoma) as a returning guest artist, and directs and choreographs each year for Neshaminy Valley Music Theatre, which awards collegiate scholarships to high school students who intend to pursue careers in the performing arts. Since the return to live professional theatre, he has been blessed with some incredible opportunities including: The Wick Theatre’s Mamma Mia, Arizona Broadway‘s Spongebob Squarepants the Musical, and BCCPA‘s Sweet Charity performed at Del Val University. Stephen recently made a proud debut at Act 2 Playhouse, where he directed and choreographed Hello Dolly, an experience that was (in his words) “an awesome, and much needed reminder, that this world is full of wonderful things!”
More recent credits include: Cabaret (Bristol Riverside), Camelot and The Marvelous Wonderettes (Montgomery Theatre), Songs for a New World and The Hunchback of Notre Dame (DeSales University), and The Addams Family (Neshaminy Valley Music Theatre).
